5G will accelerate Wi-Fi 6E, Cisco says

The advancement of 5G will serve as an acceleration vector for Wi-Fi 6E, predicts Cisco Brazil president Ricardo Mucci in a conversation with Mobile Time during last week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The high speeds experienced in 5G will boost applications that will need to maintain quality when the user is inside Wi-Fi networks. In addition, mobile operators are interested in offloading traffic, which can happen transparently to the end user through open roaming.

Cisco began manufacturing Wi-Fi 6E devices in Brazil this year. According to Muçi, all new projects in the country already use this new standard. Penetration of devices into the hands of end users, on the other hand, will happen gradually. It is worth remembering that the main chip manufacturers have already created models compatible with Wi-Fi 6E.

Mucci praised Brazil for sharing the entire 6 GHz Wi-Fi band. “Brazil is in the lead with this kind of decision, which I consider extremely correct. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are fully covered, the first with 13 channels and the second with 24. The last 5 GHz release was made in 2003,” recalls Mucci.

private networks

Cisco also wants to operate in the segment of private corporate networks, providing support with cloud solutions for the virtualization of 5G network elements. In the company’s view, mobile technology is suitable for projects in outdoor environments, especially in sectors such as mining, oil and gas. Already in, your bet remains on Wi-Fi.

Forum of innovative operators

Giuseppe Marrara, senior director of public policy at Cisco, will participate in a panel on business models for Wi-Fi networks at the 6th Innovative Operators Forum, an event organized by Mobile Time and Teletime that will takes place on March 22 and 23 at the WTC, in Sao Paulo. He will be joined by Luciano Saboia, director of research and telecom consulting for Latin America at IDC; Jonas Trunk, CEO of Linktel; and Rafael Albuquerque, CEO of Zoox Smart Data.
