According to the Clewiston Police Department, Juan Vega, 38, was arrested after police responded around 8:30 p.m. in a house on West Alverdez Avenue, citing a report of the shots. Upon arrival, they found two gun victims, a non-responding 36-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. Both victims were identified as siblings. Several family members witnessed the incident and identified Vega as the shooter. Police learned that Vega had left the house in the vehicle before they arrived.

After the on-site police resuscitation, the victim was taken by Hendry County EMS to Hendry Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The male victim was transported by family members to Hendry Regional Medical Center, where he was stabilized and transported to St. Petersburg. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

A sergeant from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office found a Vega vehicle heading for LaBelle on the SR-80. After a brief pursuit and the sergeant used his Taser, Vega was taken into custody. Inside his Dodge Ram pickup, police found a .22 caliber rifle, the same caliber said to have been used in the murder.

The CPD says it is an isolated incident and there is no indication that the community is in danger.
