A mother and child are held hostage in a car in Belem for more than 10 hours

The perpetrator would have psychiatric problems and would threaten the victims with a knife

Negotiations for the release of a woman holding a child held hostage in a car this Wednesday night (8) have reached more than 10 hours in Belem. The attack began at around 19:10 on Avenida Augusto Montenegro.

By Thursday (9) at 00:30, the policemen participating in the negotiation process had already managed to release two more children, 7 and 8 years old, who were also in the car at the time of the theft.

According to police officers, the attacker’s demands also include the presence of the press and his family members. The grandmother is at the scene, but she felt sick and had to be treated.

Every few minutes, the police come to the car and talk to the man, saying that the released children need their mother and nothing will happen to her.

The attack

According to preliminary information, around 7:10 p.m., a passenger boarded a pickup truck with three children, a child in his arms, and two others aged 7 and 8 years old. Then the robber approached the car.

The driver managed to escape and ask for help, but the mother and children remained in the car, holding the criminal hostage.

Due to the district ban, there was a long traffic jam in Avenida Augusto Montenegro, this past Wednesday (8) night.
