The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the province said at least one suspect has been arrested in connection with the deadly bistro shooting in Cutlerhun, east of Johannesburg.
Two were killed and four wounded in a shooting on July 8, 2022. Four men stormed the bistro and began shooting randomly at customers.
The country has reported a series of pub shootings, the most recent one in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Tshwane. According to an unidentified suspect, police reportedly drove a silver polo to randomly shoot at customers sitting at the bistro.
The motive for the shooting is unclear, and police will investigate two murders and seven attempted murders.
KATLEHONG TAVERN shooting suspect should be in court
The suspect in the Katlehong pub shooting is expected to appear in Palm Ridge District Court on July 25, 2022, SAPS spokesman Dimakatso Sello said.
Police are still investigating the matter and it is unclear if more arrests will be made. Meanwhile, members who may have information relevant to their investigation have been urged to come forward.
Earlier this month, MMC Community Safety Cllr Letlhogonolo Moseki assured the families of the victims of the Katlehong pub shooting that the city will support them in getting justice and ensuring the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted.
“We will not rest until these people are arrested, and they will not rest until they are in jail, because we will always be following them. We cannot allow this criminality that has no room in our city to continue. Information that can help police arrest and successfully prosecute people involved in this and other crimes across the city can be reported in any EMPD precinct or SAPS near them. If we can work together, we can defeat crime,” Moseki said.
