After the devastating ending in Bellator 292, is Michael Page’s next title shot “Venom”?
The start of Bellator 292’s main card was a huge welterweight contest with potential title ramifications. Former title challenger Michael “Venom” Page (21-2) was returning to the Bellator cage as he faced wrestling sensation Goiti Yamauchi (28-6).
Page took a brief detour after his final MMA bout when he ventured to BKFC to take on Mike Perry in August. He lost a decision in a Bare Knuckle match and returned to MMA to face Yamauchi. MVP entered the cage 6-1 in his last seven matches, but was losing to Logan Storley.
The main factor in this match is where to fight. If they stay on their feet, I expected the MVP to dismantle Yamauchi. Meanwhile, if Yamauchi is successful in fighting on the ground, you would expect him to dominate and a possible submission win.
Well, it didn’t take long to come to a conclusion. In the opening seconds, the two men could sense each other. Page unleashed a kick into Yamauchi’s leg that landed on his knee. When the kick landed, Yamauchi ruptured his patellar tendon and went down to win Page the TKO at Bellator 292.
Is the next title filmed after Bellator 292?
The finish for MVP was devastating and swift. In my opinion, you cannot deprive a guy of his right to the title after the victory he just won. This past May, he was supposed to face MVP Yaroslav Amosov for the undisputed welterweight title.
However, after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, Amosov left to fight for his homeland. Logan Storley stepped up and fought MVP for the interim title. MVP was chokeslammed by Storley Wrestling and lost by a split decision.
Amosoff returned a few weeks ago and completely dominated Logan Sturley in a title unification match. In my opinion, there is no question of what should be next. Bellator and Scott Coker should move right away to take on the fight that was supposed to happen last year. Yaroslav Amosov – Michael “Venom” page for the welterweight title.
