Alexander Volkov Open To Tuivasa Pick Gane Rematch
LAS VEGAS, NVV — Former Bellator MMA Heavyweight Champion Alexander Volkov shortlisted another “Alex” at UFC Las Vegas.
“Drago” fought off an early takedown effort by Moldovan heavyweight Alexander Romanov on Saturday. and from that point The TKO finish came in that round and gave Volkov (36-10) his second straight win at the UFC heavyweight bout.
after the match Volkov admits he was a bit surprised in the match. Because Romanov was losing and ranked behind him.
“I was a little surprised, but really, I didn’t pick my fights. I fight whoever the UFC gives me,” the Russian fighter told media outlets including Cageside Press, speaking through an interpreter. “I wish him good luck. I think he’s a good person. I think we can work together in the future. There are a lot of things that I can gain from him when it comes to wrestling. I am sure I can narrowly work with him.”
“Really, everyone in the top 15 is a worthy opponent,” adds Volkov. “We can all learn something from each other. And we can all face each other in the future.”
What’s next for Volkov might be interesting. He battled many names in the top 10; Champion Jon Jones is booked with Stipe Miocic and Volkov likely has a way of doing it before being part of the title picture.
One valid name is Tai Tuivasa, a battle that Volkov opens up, though he worries that victory won’t improve his fortune much.
“I don’t mind fighting him. It just looks like he’s about to lose. I don’t remember how many times he lost. I think twice is at least. So I was worried about my victory over him. if it happens It will weigh less or less. Because he’s about to lose.”
In fact, Tuivasa lost two fights in a row. But still ahead of Volkov, at #5 in the weight class. “I don’t care if they let me fight, but I really want to take revenge on the people I lost. [Ciryl] Gane would be interesting.”
Gane won the decision when the pair met in 2021; He will return from losing to Jon Jones at UFC 285 in the near future.
Derrick Lewis is someone Volkov sees as well as Tuivasa. Volkov trained with Sergei Pavlovich for his fight against “The Black Beast” and also worked with Serghei Spivac who just defeated Lewis. Between the two, he prefers Tuivasa.
At the age of 34, Alexander Volkov is nearing his 15th anniversary in this sport. and last Saturday He has 46 pro bouts under his belt. But he hadn’t thought of the end yet.
“I’ve been doing it for a while. But at the age when I started doing it, I was actually still learning. And now I’m just starting to take shape And I think I’m still learning myself,” he told Cageside Press. “We could say I have a threshold of maybe 40, but for now I feel great and I want to move forward.”
