Former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District, Anderson Torres went through a detention hearing by video conference at the Aviation Operational Battalion (BAVOP) this Saturday, 14. Judge Airton Vieira, the magistrate instructor of Alexandre de Moraes, presided over the hearing and assessed whether there were any irregularities in the prison of Torres. After the hearing, it was established that he will remain in prison. The former secretary will testify next week. He was arrested this Saturday morning, the 14th, after arriving at Brasília airport and handed himself over to Federal police. Torres was sent to the 4th Battalion of the Military Police of the Federal District, located in Guará. There is still no official information whether he will remain detained at the scene or will be transferred to the Papuda Prison Complex, known as “Papudinha”.
Last Tuesday, the 10th, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraesdetermined the arrest of Torres as a result of alleged leniency in the acts of vandalism which took place in Brasilia on January 8 – was confirmed by the plenary session days later. Anderson was the Secretary of Public Security of the DF on the day of the occupation and destruction of the buildings located in Praça dos Três Poderes (Palácio do Planalto, Congress and STF). Through his social networks, the former minister had already communicated that he would return to Brazilian territory after the issuance of the arrest warrant by the magistrate of the Supreme Court. He claims that he is not guilty of the last 8 acts. “I have always based my actions on ethics and legality. I believe in Brazilian justice and the strength of institutions. I am sure that the truth will prevail”, Torres said on his social networks, after the decree of arrest.
