A sea urchin has been spotted on the Baltic coast of Latvia
Rügen, Poland and now Latvia. Are there more species seen on the Baltic coast lately, or is it always the same animal?
Two weeks after the flying visit of the Sea Rügen, the sea bream was also spotted on the Baltic Sea coast of Latvia.
The marine mammal was found and photographed early Monday morning on a beach near the port city of Liepaja, Latvian radio reported. According to witnesses, the animal returned to the sea a little later.
According to Valdis Pilats of the Latvian nature conservation agency, it is the first documented sighting of the sea urchin in the EU Baltic country in northeastern Europe. It could be the same animal that caused a stir in Rügen and the Polish Baltic Sea coast in mid-June.
The government also warned in its statement not to approach the beach and leave it alone. “Wild Animal is not a circus show.” Videos and photos posted online show bystanders getting relatively close to the giant sea creature and shining flashlights on it.
