From the end of March next year, new refugees should not come to the arrival center. A government spokesperson said in a statement on Friday. “ffn” radio station reported about it earlier.

According to the state reception office of Lower Saxony, there are currently about 2,200 people in the arrival center. For Inner Saxony, the question now is how to compensate for the lost seats.

“The Federal Ministry of Defense has rejected the extension of the use of the camp in Falingbostel for the accommodation of refugees,” a spokesperson told the broadcaster. Prime Minister Stefan Weil and Home Secretary Boris Pistorius (both SPD) asked the ministry for an extension in early October. It is a huge challenge for Lower Saxony to distribute around 2,000 more refugees to the municipalities.

The host authority in Bad Fallingbostel-Oerbke is a former barracks. Thousands of people from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq arrived here in 2015/2016. during the refugee crisis. According to their own statement, about 7,900 people are currently accommodated in the state reception areas.

The mayor of Bad Fallingbostel, Rolf Schneider (SPD), told the radio station that many citizens will accept the decision with sympathy. “Normal usage of about 1,200 people was not a problem, but now with about 2,200, complaints are increasing because some residents are clearly misbehaving,” Schneider said.
