At least 13 shot dead in Soweto tavern

At least 13 people were reportedly shot at a bistro in Soweto, Gauteng, and four others remain in intensive care in hospital.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 10, at the Nomzamo Tavern in Orlando.

The exact age of the person who was shot is not known, but police Event confirmed.

Gauteng police chief General Elias Mawela told eNCA Preliminary investigations indicated that people were having a good time at the pub and the suspect came in and shot people at random.

Mavila said detectives were at the scene and they estimated the man who was shot was between 19 and 35 years old.

The Soweto incident comes a few weeks after 21 teenagers were also tragically killed at the Enyobeni pub in East London’s Scenic Park. The funeral was held this week, and President Cyril Ramaphosa said he had received numerous requests to raise the legal drinking age to 21.
