Bergkamen wants to step up the fight against gravel in the front yard

Some consider them easier to maintain, but most condemn them for making the city even hotter in the summer: gravel front yards. Bergkamen marks the first successes in the fight against gravel.

There are homeowners who think that mowing their front yards will save them a lot of maintenance. However, conservatives and, for some time, politicians are mobilizing against gravel. Their argument: Gravel gardens contribute to climate change. Since the area is usually covered with a metal sheet, much less water seeps in – which contributes to the fact that the groundwater table sinks.
