‘Black Adam’ tops the North American box office

Warner Bros. ‘ new movie “Black Adam” Industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday that it led the North American box office with $67 million this weekend.

A superhero origin story from 2019 “Shazam” “Black Adam” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays the titular villain, a former slave who is endowed with magical powers by the ancient Egyptian gods.

“As a derivative, it’s a strong start,” David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research said, adding that it was “a positive and steady step forward for DC Comics,” the creator of many superhero films.

The second in the distance is another new release, Universal’s “Paradise Ticket” $16.3 million between Friday and Sunday. Released earlier abroad, it has already raked in $80 million outside of North America.

“It’s the domestic opening of a really good romantic comedy,”

Gross said.

It stars two Hollywood superstars, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, a bickering divorced couple who fly to Hawaii to try to spoil their daughter’s wedding.

As Halloween approaches, the next two movies are horror movies.

Paramount “Smile” Down one place from last weekend to third, with $8.4 million in revenue. Sosie Bacon plays a therapist whose grasp of reality is shaken by horrific events.

Next comes the bloody global “Halloween is over,” From last weekend’s high of $41.3 million at the box office, it dropped sharply to just $8 million. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis.

In fifth place is Sony’s family-friendly “Lyle Lyle Crocodile,” $4.2 million.

Overall, it was a great weekend for Hollywood, grossing over $100 million.
