Once like the pros in the Tour de France – a hobby cyclist from Swords dared to start the amateur race. The climb up to Alpe d’Huez in particular was difficult.

You have to be a little crazy to embark on this cycling adventure. André Barthelmey from Schwerte did it – and didn’t regret it for a second. The amateur cyclist was at the start of the legendary amateur race L’Etape du Tour on Sunday, one of around 16,000 starters. At the end of a long day over 167 kilometers and 4,700 meters in altitude, Barthelmey could be pleased – with himself and his performance.
