Deiveson Figueiredo frustrated with his UFC salary; Appoints Urijah Faber as new manager

The UFC flyweight champ isn’t too happy about the promotion. Undisputed King Deiveson Figueiredo (21-2-1) is currently treating a hand injury that has kept him out of the octagon since January.

Back in January at UFC 270, Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno fought for the third time. The first fight was a draw and then Moreno won the second fight. Figueiredo retaliated in the third fight to regain his flyweight title.

Originally, there were talks of being promoted to do the fourth fight due to the fact that neither of the two men had an advantage in the series. However, Figueiredo has been sidelined due to this injury and has not been allowed to compete yet.

Meanwhile, at UFC 277 later this month, Brandon Moreno will face Kai Kara-France for the interim flyweight title. The decision to form a temporary title fight isn’t something Figueiredo’s suits for.

In addition to his unhappiness with the temporary title status, the UFC champ has expressed his frustration with regards to pay. In fact, he was so frustrated that he fired his former manager and hired someone the UFC knew.

The UFC Champion hires a legend to represent him

Deiveson Figueiredo told MMA Fighting this week that he has hired Urijah Faber as his new manager. The goal of hiring Faber was to get someone close to the UFC to negotiate his next contract.

“Faber has connections in the company, he’s close to Dana, he’s American and he lives there, he knows the numbers and how they work, and I’m sure he’ll struggle hard for me there,” said Feggy, on the go.

Figueiredo said he made no more than $200,000 on his title with Moreno. In private discussions with Faber, Faber would tell him that his numbers were too low. This is likely the case given the fact that he is a UFC champ.

There is no telling whether this decision will end up benefiting Figueiredo or not. One thing for sure though is the fact that it can’t hurt. It will be interesting to watch the fallout from this especially after UFC 277 later this month.
