Election 2022: Bolsonaro takes part in Marches for Jesus in the Northeast
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) traveled to the Northeast this Saturday (16) to participate in evangelistic events in Natal (RN) and Fortaleza (CE) in his re-election campaign. The religious group is an important part of the presidential electorate.
Bolsonaro’s trip includes taking part in marches for Jesus in both capitals. Walks are one of the main annual events of the evangelical community, which have been organized for 30 years all over the country.
He will be in Natal this Saturday morning and afternoon. In the capital, Rio Grande do Norte, you should also go to a Catholic mass at the Basilica dos Martires and the Assembly of God service in the Alecrim district. The President participates in the procession for Jesus at 14:00.
It is expected that Bolsonaro will arrive in Fortaleza at 5:00 p.m. and will take a walk at 6:00 p.m. The trip to the northeast is strategic for the president, as the region is largely in favor of former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), according to polls.
Bolsonaro reinforced his speech on customary and religious guidelines in the election campaign. He leads voting intentions in the evangelical community, while self-proclaimed Catholic voters prefer Lula.
The latest poll on religion by the Datafolha Institute on June 22 and 23 showed that 36% of evangelicals intend to vote for Bolsonaro and 28% for Lula. 42% of Catholics have already chosen PT, compared to 20% for the current president.
