Former Bellator title contender (at flyweight) and Invicta FC Strawweight Champion Emily Ducote made his UFC debut on Saturday by taking on former UFC title contender Jessica Penne.
Strawweights kick off the UFC Long Island preliminary, an early start for the East Coast — 11:00 AM.
Ducote’s debut was highly anticipated, and at 28, “Gordinha” had just reached her peak. It’s the perfect moment to make an impact in the UFC’s strawweight edition.
She definitely made an impact on Saturday. Especially Jessica Penne’s legs.
The two fighters slowly started to fight. Trying to pick shots, Ducote had a good leg kick and a right hook forced Penne to fire Ducote in defense, but Penne did a knee and elbow break before the break. Ducote continued to kick the leg and Penne threw more of her hand in response. A fine one-two from Decote landed and missed the takedown from Penne. Decote reached the other two right-handed to the bell in front of Penne.
Leg kicks are a sign of something to come. Actively better at the start of the second round, with both fighters throwing Ducote a heavy leg kick that knocked Penne off balance. Penne took a heavy penalty with her lead leg and ate a bullet in the face. Penne tried to weaken the fight, but Ducote defended it perfectly. Penne’s entry time started to improve but couldn’t finish. Ducote did a good job of getting her head off the center line and found her to strike. Ducote would bend to the side and fire one-on-two with Penne at Quieter, Penne finished the round with a good score.

In the final lap, a kick on the starting leg caused Penne a noticeable injury. And Penne is in big trouble. Ducote grabs a big and busy right hand with Penne’s left leg. Every time Ducote kicks that leg clean, Penne wobbles. Penne gets respect back with two good right-handers. Her legs were shot and her movements were limited. Ducote landed whatever she threw. To close the fight, Ducote took over the left hook on the bell at the bell, Penne shook again.
Zero result Unless they tried to figure out which second-round referee gave Penne.
Official results: Emily Ducote def. Jessica Penne by decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
