Despite the energy crisis, Hamburg Mayor Peter Schentscher has spoken out against the longer use of nuclear power in Germany. The SPD politician told dpa that he does not see the solution to the current problems in the extension of the three nuclear power plants connected to the grid. As a reason, he mentioned the unsolved problem of leakage. “The federal government is still trying in vain to find a repository for nuclear waste. In this sense, the solution to this crisis is not in nuclear power, but in the short-term strengthening of coal-fired power plants and the medium- and long-term transition to renewable energy.”
