“Even parrots can talk.”
LAS VEGAS, NV — Brazilian light heavyweight Vitor Petrino finally feels like he’s officially arrived at UFC. after Saturday’s UFC Las Vegas main card showdown against Anton Turkalj.
The pair, both Contender Series alumni, won Fight of the Night, although Petrino fought easily on the scorecard.
“I’m happy to finally be able to call myself a UFC fighter. I keep walking, I go into the cage, I fight, I win,” the undefeated Petrino (8-0) told media outlets including Cageside. Press after the match “I raised my arms. No one can compete now. I’m a UFC fighter.”
In terms of surprises in the fight, there weren’t that many, although Petrino singled out one hurdle. “I think the biggest surprise was the kick. It really touched my heart. and i can feel it But I was able to recover. I work out hard in the gym. So it’s not the first time I’ve felt this way. So I can take my time, recover and get back to it.”
Before the fight, there was a lot of nonsense on Turkalj’s part, which Vitor Petrino spoke backstage.
“Talking is cheap. even parrots can talk No matter what he said outside the cage As soon as the door closes he would have to step back. [up] whatever [he said]. I am happy with what happened. He did what he had to do. And in the end it didn’t make a difference.”
Petrino looked like he wanted to say something to his opponent as Turkalj left the octagon once the score was read. but didn’t get a chance “He got away quite quickly. But I just wanted to tell him that mercy begets mercy. And that’s what I did with him there.”
For the fake handshake and finger wagging by Turkalj at Friday’s weigh-in. “It was a very innocent game,” Petrino remarked. “But when the door closes no solution he must return Whether he puts it outside He must go back into the cage. And we saw how it went.”
