FIFA warns Tunisia of World Cup interference – SABC News

FIFA has warned the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF) that their participation in the World Cup could be in jeopardy if government interference in the organization is found.

Having qualified for their sixth World Cup, the North African nation are in Group D alongside world champions France, Australia and Denmark, who they face in their first match on November 22.

FIFA sent a letter to the TFF this week outlining its concerns after Tunisia’s Youth and Sports Minister Kamel Deguiche threatened to disband some federal offices, among other recent comments that have irked the global governing body.

FIFA confirmed the letter to Reuters but declined to comment further.

Reuters Inquiries to the TFF and the Sports Ministry did not elicit immediate responses.

The letter from Kenny Jean-Marie, Director of FIFA Member Associations, to TFF Secretary General Wajdi Aouadi reminds the association of its duty to act independently and avoid undue influence from third parties.

“Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in sanctions under FIFA law, including suspension of the relevant association,” the statement said.
