Fluminense fans clash with police outside Fla x Flu at the Maracanã
Fans took a stun bomb and pepper spray around the stadium

After a death in a fight between Vasco and Flamengo fans last weekend, the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro strengthened security around Maracanã for the classic between flamenco x Fluminense this Wednesday the 8th, but there was confusion with the City Guard. Fluminense fans were hit by pepper spray and a stun gun in the crowd near the stadium. On social networks, some fans recorded images and claimed that children and women were hit. There were no reports of fights between opposing fans. In a note, the Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) and Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) informed that the unrest started after the GM confiscated goods being sold irregularly by street vendors. The Secretariat confirmed the use of “instruments with less offensive potential” to dispel confusion. A man was arrested and taken to the police station after attacking one of the GMs with a glass bottle.
