For the IMF, the risk of recession is rising in many economies

Since the start of the pandemic, the Fund has provided nearly $260 billion in financial assistance to 93 countries, according to the agency.

The Director General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, confirmed this Friday, the 14th, during the organization’s annual meetings, that the risk of recession is increasing in many economies. According to him, the world is more fragile and is entering a “danger zone”.

Kristalina Georgieva emphasized that the increase in inflation is mainly caused by the policies used to control the epidemic and the war in Ukraine, and that the priority of governments should be to reduce the index.

According to the Director General of the International Monetary Fund, 28 countries have already shown interest in receiving financial assistance from the agency.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Fund has provided nearly $260 billion in financial assistance to 93 countries, according to the agency.

Kristalina Georgieva emphasized that the loans are consistent with the “counter-cyclical” role of the IMF, and that one of the priorities should be the fight against food insecurity.
