Francis Ngannou is officially a free agent after the UFC deal collapsed

Almost a year ago at UFC 270, Francis Ngannou (17-3) walked into the octagon with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was the heavyweight champion and was fighting a former training partner for the best prize in mixed martial arts.

Not only that, he has openly said that he will not have another fight in his current UFC deal if he defeats Jin. Well, you know the story from here. Francis Ngannou defeated Cyril Jean despite sustaining a serious knee injury that required surgery to repair.

After knee surgery, the UFC and Ngannou began working on a new contract. It was all in store for Ngannou to face Jon Jones for the heavyweight title upon Ngannou’s return. However, for several months, contract talks went nowhere.

Over the past month, the talks seemed to be moving in the right direction. However, Dana White announced tonight that the UFC failed to come to terms with Ngannou and he is officially a free agent.

UFC champ walks away

The promotion announced that Jon Jones and Cyril Jean will fight for the vacant heavyweight championship at UFC 285 on March 4. White said the offer for Ngannou from the UFC would have made him the highest paid heavyweight in the promotion’s history.

Wyatt asserted that the deal would have paid Neganu more than Brock Lesnar, the greatest draw in heavyweight history. From here, the question would be, Where does Francis Nganu go? To be completely honest, I have no idea.

I really find it hard to believe that Bellator would pay Ngannou the money he’s looking for. Perhaps the PFL with Jake Paul will find financing for Ngannou. However, I can’t see Ngannou signing up to compete in a season-type format offered by the PFL.

There’s no chance in hell that he signs with BKFC. If I had to invest the money, I would say he finds his way into boxing then. Nor would I completely rule out a return to the UFC if talks can resume after Jones and Jen’s fight ends in March.
