Google News is getting a makeover. The app will get new features and design

If you’ve used other messaging apps before, you’ll recognize many of the news announced by Google. Plus, Google News brings everything together in one place

Let’s start with a small metamorphosis, ie. refresh the app icon. According to the company, it’s “designed to better reflect today’s modern messaging environment and look the same as many other Google products.” On the occasion of the change, also “Phone” and “Contacts”, so everything looks really consistent.

As for improvements, Google News will finally allow us to reply to individual messages in a conversation. This is a really great convenience, especially since WhatsApp or iMessage have been offering this solution for a long time. Speaking of the Apple application, it is worth mentioning that soon Google News will allow us to respond to SMS received by iPhone users using emoticons. Here, the company will finally tidy it up a bit, because at the beginning of the year, owners of iOS devices could react to messages received from Android, but not the other way around.

Soon the news will also include suggestions – after receiving important information in the message (address, phone number, etc.), the application will suggest that we mark the SMS with a star for easier location. There will also be contextual actions based on the content of a message, such as starting a video call or selecting something on the calendar.

Google will also let you watch YouTube videos without leaving the app. However, owners of the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 6A, Pixel 6 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22, and Galaxy Z Fold4 will receive voicemail transcriptions.
