The operation of the fire brigade on Monday night initially sounded like a typical heat operation. “The hedge is on fire.” But on the ground, everything seemed much more threatening.
On Monday evening, 18 July 2022 at 21:22, Vernay Volunteer Fire Brigade Fire Engine No. 1 (town centre) was called to a suspected hedge fire in Tunen Street, Vernay. The mission keyword was “FEUER_2 – Burning the Fence”.
But already in Hansaring, the rescuers noticed a strong development of smoke in the area of the embankment during the oncoming traffic. As the flames were already several meters high, about 15 m long in the dam or there in the underwater plant, the first emergency fire truck turned around at the Hansaring / Stockumer Straße intersection and drove back to the Hansaring and stopped at playground level.
Firefighters extinguished the fire with respiratory protective equipment in two combat calculations with a quick attack from an ambulance fire truck. [1-HLF20] away.
