How much will Poles spend on gifts this year? It depends

Due to rising prices and raging inflation in our country, most Poles are planning to limit spending on Christmas gifts. The latest report shows how much money the average Pole “leaves” under the Christmas tree. How often do we choose electronics for a Christmas present?

According to a survey commissioned by the Polish Bankers Association, as many as 73% of Poles plan to cut down on their Christmas shopping. Undoubtedly, it is influenced by constantly rising prices. This year’s data show that more than half, namely 57% of those surveyed, assessed the current economic situation as significantly worse than in the previous year. Only 12% of Poles assess their current financial situation positively. For this reason, every second respondent stated that they wanted to reduce spending on Christmas presents.

No wonder up to 45% of us planned to buy electronics for the Christmas present much earlier, on Black Friday 2022 and Cyber ​​Monday 2022. The Digital Care Report also shows that only one in five respondents said they did not want to take advantage of such an opportunity. What ended up in the shopping cart most often with such purchases? We mostly chose smartphones and peripherals – 26% each, laptops – 15% and televisions – 13%.

Will Polish gifts be greener this year?

The data presented above shows that as Poles we are planning to reduce spending related to the upcoming Christmas celebrations, but there is also a report Ecological Christmas – are we ready?!. Among other things, it shows that 37% of respondents agree that this year’s Christmas will be more environmentally friendly than the previous one, and 68% of respondents say it is important to them that brands enable the purchase of a Christmas offer that respects the environment.

Interestingly, other studies confirm that this trend also applies to electronics. More and more companies on the Polish market are offering refurbished smartphones straight from the store shelves, which represent an interesting alternative to new products in times when people are looking for savings. In the survey the question: As a Christmas gift, you would buy a refurbished phone for a loved one, packed in a box, looks like new, with 12 months warrantyup to 40% of Poles answered yes.

We can see that a refurbished smartphone will become an interesting idea for a Christmas present for Poland. Such a smartphone is fully functional, has original spare parts and is cheaper by a dozen, sometimes even 30 percent. There is no fear of a defect as long as it is purchased from a proven, reputable salon. On the other hand, according to our study “Children and Smartphones”, it is also a popular solution to give away used cell phones to children – every fifth parent does it. A refurbished device can therefore be a good idea for a Christmas present for the little ones.

The cited report also shows that 30% of respondents would give a used item as a gift, and every second Pole would not mind receiving such a gift.

How much will Poles spend on gifts?

The report shows that almost a quarter of our compatriots want to spend between PLN 300 and 500 on Christmas presents. 22% of Poles say they leave an amount between PLN 100 and 300 under the Christmas tree. Only 12% of respondents plan to buy more expensive gifts in the PLN 500-800 price range.
