In recent years, it is clear how the approach to apple tablets is changing. For a long time, they were simply “bigger smartphones” on which it was more convenient to surf the Internet, read the press, comics, watch YouTube … and, to a large extent, consumed content. Now, however, Apple tablets are more than just devices for consuming content broadly understood. They are proving themselves better and better as a tool for their creation. And thanks to the involvement of other big brands in creating software for it and driving the Apple Silicon M1 and M2 processors – they have enough power that they can freely serve as a replacement for computers in some areas. This is the case with photo and video editing (I remind you that DaVinci Resolve will be available by the end of the year), 3D modeling or a whole range of fantastic applications for illustrators. iPadOS is far from perfect—and right now, it can’t be compared to either Windows or macOS. Nevertheless, it can be seen that Apple has a lot of faith in its tablets – and regularly gives them more and more performance. And if the latest reports from The Information are to be believed, next year would offer a bigger variant as well. Created for the most demanding customers who, for various reasons, choose a tablet over a computer.
A 16-inch iPad?
The giant from Cupertino sweats while working on such a project, which should be on store shelves next fall. Of course – as with all information resulting from rumors, it is also worth approaching them with a considerable distance (earlier there was information about the alleged development of a 14.1″ variant). News about the device is like medicine, and the premiere is far enough away that there is nothing in the topic can still change a lot, but looking more broadly at recent activity around iPads – especially the most expensive Pro models – it wouldn’t surprise me at all. More and more professional accessories, better screens and above all – more and more powerful systems. It’s what makes these tools so powerful, and if we take into account the convenience of using them on the go – in many situations it will turn out to be in a different league than laptops.
However, looking at the potential size – and the fact that I’d expect it to be more on the Pro shelf, I’m concerned about the price. As a reminder: the largest 12.9-inch iPad Pro in the current product range starts at PLN 7,199 for the 128GB version. The highest variant – with 2TB of memory and mobile connectivity costs PLN 15,499. And if we add to this a set of accessories (Apple Pencil – PLN 749, Magic Keyboard – PLN 2199 – optionally you can take the Smart Keyboard Folio for PLN 1199), it becomes a cosmic sum. The 16-inch variant would certainly be more expensive today and a year from now … it’s scary to even think about.
