Jerry Lee Lewis, the world rock legend, has died at the age of 87

(ANSA) – Considered a world rock legend, singer Jerry Lee Lewis died this Friday (28) at the age of 87, the artist’s agent Zack Farnum announced.

According to American media, the artist was at his home in Mississippi with his seventh wife Judith at the time of his death.

Confirmation of Lewis’ death comes two days after US website TMZ reported he had died and later apologized for the error.

Born in Ferriday, in the US state of Louisiana, the singer is considered the last of the rock’n’roll pioneers still alive. He marked the 1950s, along with Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins, mainly with his renditions of classics like “Whole lotta shakin’ goin’on” and “Great balls of fire”.

Last week, he made his latest appearance on Instagram to lament that he missed the Country Music Hall of Fame awards night due to the flu.

“It is with deep sadness and disappointment that I am writing to you today from my sick bed, instead of being able to share my thoughts in person. I tried everything I could to muster up the strength to come today – I’ve been waiting so long for this since I heard about it earlier this year. My sincere apologies to all of you for missing this beautiful event, but I hope to see you soon,” he said at the time.
