Kate Bush with a 9000% increase in Spotify views!

Spotify’s streaming service says Kate Bush’s games are up 9,000% thanks to Stranger Things (and TikTok).

Spotify’s monthly active users grew by 19 million this quarter, beating the site’s own estimate – but that’s not the only thing growing on this streaming platform (and more). Spotify reported that streams of Kate Bush’s 1985 single “Running Up That Hill” (RUTH) increased 9,000% after the song was featured in an episode of Netflix’s new season of Stranger Things.

Netflix and Spotify collaborated on a playlist based on the hit show (which cost over $30 million per episode!), so it makes sense that Spotify would praise the British star’s virtues.

But Bush’s return to the mainstream also has a lot to do with TikTok. The song “Running Up That Hill” has appeared in 2.7 million videos on TikTok, which cannot be ignored. This isn’t the first time TikTok has brought older songs back to the charts such as “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac and “No Children” by The Mountain Goats.

Bush previously released a statement about his excitement over his song’s resurgence in popularity. The song got a whole new life all over the world, including in Poland – the song “Running Up That Hill” is conquering the charts all over the world. For weeks, it was at the top of the Radio 357 song list.
