After suffering the first consecutive defeat of his career, light heavyweight Kennedy Nzechukwu is looking for a solution when he faces Karl Roberson at UFC Vegas 58 on Saturday.
Roberson, for his part, lost three matches. The slip that began during his middleweight. for obvious reasons Saturday was a win-win situation for “Baby K” and very likely for Nzechukwu as well.
The first round started with Roberson trying to knock down Nzechukwu, but with a lack of size to put the big man down. He ended up preventing submission attempts throughout the round. Not much in terms of offense for any man besides Nzechukwu who constantly cranked his neck.
The second round and Roberson came out with a foot shot. But it didn’t take long for Nzechukwu to take him down. As they returned to what looked like a round, Nzechukwu opted to fire from Roberson’s back. After a few minutes of dominating him on the ground, Nzechukwu was able to reach a blast ashore. Full and constantly forcing Roberson to defend, Roberson couldn’t do much as he hit the ground and was forced to defend the neck crank and hammer punch from the bottom position.
In the third round Roberson attempted to fight Nzechukwu and was successful for a while. Roberson fought for as much as possible, but Nzechukwu remained on top. More tussle from Roberson, but it wasn’t because Nzechukwu got a huge elbow from the top and Herb Dean was forced to call a fight.
Official match result: Kennedy Nzechukwu def. Karl Roberson via R3 2:19 TKO.
