Former MP Leonardo Picciani (MDB, photo) will head the sanitation secretariat of the Lula government’s Ministry of Cities (PT). The nomination was published in today’s edition of the Official Gazette.
Picciani is president of MDB’s Rio de Janeiro state office. Last year, he was nominated for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies, but was not elected. The former parliamentarian is one of the members of the MDB wing, who defended the party’s support to Lula in the first round of the presidential election campaign.
In addition, Picciani was already Michel Temer’s (MDB) Minister of Sports, and took over the government after the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff (PT). His father, Jorge Picciani, was president of the Legislative Assembly of Rio and died in 2021, a victim of bladder cancer.
