Lula says he doesn’t want ‘revenge’ but Bolsonaro ‘must explain himself’

Tebet sang the refrain used by the former president’s supporters: “it’s time for Jair to go now” and said he supported Lula’s election mainly in defense of democracy.

Next to Senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS), the Vice-Governor of Minas Gerais, Paulo Brant (PSDB) and elected federal deputy Marina Silva (Rede-SP), former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) raised his voice again. Speech against President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), candidate for re-election, this Friday, the 21st, in Teofilo Otonio, in the north of Minas Gerais.

“It is obvious that we do not want to win the elections in order to take revenge on anyone. Our only goal is to prove that Brazilians can eat three meals a day. But he (Bolsonaro) will have to explain himself,” said the former president. “He (Bolsonaro) will have to explain himself about the 400,000 deaths he caused during the (covid-19) epidemic. He has to explain the split in the Assembly of Rio de Janeiro. You have to explain the 100-year secrecy of the documents,” said Lula.

Tebet sang the refrain of the former president’s supporters “it’s time for Jair to go” and declared that he supported Lula’s election mainly in defense of democracy. The emedebista is quoted as holding the Agriculture or Education portfolios in Lula’s eventual government.

“I want to see President Lula to remove from this country a government that does not respect democracy, does not respect the law and does not respect families,” Tebbett said. “Loud and clear. I’m here supporting Lula.” And, turning to PT, the senator said: “Lula, I am here because you will take care of the people of Brazil. I want to see you again president.”

In an indirect reference to Bolsonaro’s statement last week, in which the president said he had “painted climates” with 14- and 15-year-old Venezuelan girls, Tebbett was quite emphatic. .

Paulo Brant said during his speech that “Minas Gerais is the cradle of freedom in Brazil” and that “the people of Minas cannot at this time refuse their support to Lula”.

Marina Silva, for her part, said that she and Tebet together with Lula represent the support of the Brazilian population for the PA. “We are together. One is a white, Catholic woman (Tebbett), the other is a black, evangelical woman (herself), next to Lula,” said the elected deputy.
