Four times in prison for raping stepfather
The accused was sentenced for rape of his 13- and 15-year-old stepdaughters, grievous bodily harm and illegal entry into the country.
“The magistrate ordered a life sentence,” said Lumka Mahanjana, spokesperson for the Pretoria National Prosecution Authority (NPA).
The state said the man from Mozambique lived with the children’s mother in Kamieldrift, east of Pretoria. He is the only provider in the family.
“From 2004 to 2019, when he bought clothes for the children, he demanded sexual activity as a form of payment. He would take them one by one to collect wood or feed chickens and then rape them,” Mahanjana said. Say.
Arrested after family activity
The accused’s vile behavior was uncovered at a family event in December 2019, when the 13-year-old victim asked other children if they were “paying with sexual favors” when their father bought them something.
Adults attending the event, including the child’s mother, overheard the conversation and the stepfather was called to the police.
The man – who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim – was arrested in January 2020 and has been in custody since the NPA successfully opposed bail.
The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. State prosecutor Akanyan Ben-Smith told the court the girls were deprived of their dignity by men who were meant to protect them and become their fathers.
“Children are psychologically affected by these events; therefore, [Smith] Ask the court to impose a life sentence,” the NPA said.
