Manaus – Children from the age of 3 will start being vaccinated against Covid-19 next Monday (18), in Manaus. This measure, guaranteed by the approval of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) for the use of CoronaVac, expands the municipal vaccination campaign, which until now only covered children aged 5 to 11.
Mayor David Almeida points out that the permission to use CoronaVac for children under 5 years old represents an important progress for the municipality’s public health.
“We are happy to take this further step, expanding the age range of children who can be vaccinated and protected against the coronavirus. Immunization is still the main weapon in the fight against Covid and the prefecture, since the vaccines were put into circulation, has been working tirelessly to reach as large a part of the population as possible,” the head of the municipal administration points out.
According to data from the Municipal Department of Health (Semsa), children at the age of 5 have already been vaccinated with pediatric Pfizer, and those at the age of 6 and older with both pediatric Pfizer and CoronaVac.
The new group that can be vaccinated is more than 80 thousand children. There are 41,441 boys and girls at the age of 3, and 41,866 at the age of 4, according to IBGE estimates.
