Mbeki calls for swift investigation into Enyobeni pub deaths – My Crush Live News

The chancellor of the University of South Africa and former president, Thabo Mbeki, has added his voice to calls for the ongoing investigation into the cause of death of the 21 victims of the Enyobeni Tavern tragedy in East London in the Eastern Cape to be concluded quickly.

Speaking at a UNISA graduation ceremony in the city, Mbeki paid tribute to the families of the victims who died last month.

Police forensics said methanol was found in all the bodies of the deceased, but it was not enough to cause their deaths.

The investigation into the cause of death has not yet been completed.

Mbeki says grieving families need closure. “This is the first time I have come to the city since that terrible incident of the death of young people in a tavern … we hope that the scientists will finish their work as soon as possible in terms of identifying the cause of this unfortunate death so that everything can to be done and to deal with the consequences of what we have done wrong.’
