MPRJ is taking action against police officers accused of extortion

In an effort to combat organized crime, the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Gaeco/MPRJ) today (7), with the support of the Security and Intelligence Coordination (CSI/MPRJ), launched Operation Intimate Enemy to enforce preventive arrest warrants. and the search and seizure of two civilian police officers assigned to the 64th DP (São João de Meriti) in Baixada Fluminense, and another man.

They are charged with the crimes of armed criminal association and concussion, having used their positions to gain an advantage. According to the investigation, the three were engaged in extortion. The warrants were issued by the 1st Criminal Court of San Joao de Meriti.

According to the MPRJ, a criminal group was identified that operated at least until June 29, 2017 within the borders of the state of Rio de Janeiro, mainly in the municipality of San Joa de Meriti. The preliminary investigation began after the consent of the petition signed by the defendant during the previous preliminary investigation. According to MPRJ, the target group of today’s operation used firearms to achieve their goals.

“The three defendants were part of a group of police officers and informants who performed actions and approaches with information about committing a crime, but after extortion and receiving valuables, did not report the case to the police headquarters or. submitted only partially to allow the petition for bail by the police authority,” MPRJ informed.

According to the agency, Gaeco/MPRJ was at the forefront of the investigation that led to the complaint, as well as the missing intelligence deputy of the State Secretariat for Public Security.
