The decision ordering the arrest of the former mayor was made on March 3, 2023 by judge Anselmo Chíxaro. Also on March 6, the Minister of the High Court of Justice, Joel Ilan Paciornik, confirmed the decision to keep Simão Peixoto in prison.
By preserving the prison, Justice reinforces the message that no one, regardless of position, is above the law. The arrest of the former mayor is also a demonstration of the Brazilian justice system’s commitment to combating political violence, especially against women.
It is important that political leaders understand that the era of impunity and violence against women is over. The arrest of Simão Peixot should serve as a wake-up call for those who still do not understand that political violence is unacceptable and must be punished.

Councilor Nurse Tatiana Franco (PTB) filed a police report (BO) against Mayor Simão Peixot following threats during a political event in the municipality that took place on October 30, 2022.
In a video of another flagrante published on social networks, this time shown on the screen of the State Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), Simão Peixoto appears with some supporters on stage, where he speaks and threatens the opposition councilor, Nurse Tatiana, where he says that he will “slap”.
In his speech, the municipal mayor threatened to attack the town hall because he “respects Borba’s health”. It should be noted that councilwoman Tatjana is one of the few in Borba who managed to improve the health structure of the municipality with imposing amendments.

Other attacks
Last September, the mayor of Borba at the time, Simão Peixoto Lima, organized an attack on the president of the Amazonas Legislative Assembly, Roberto Cidade, during a pre-election walk in the city. The motivation for the aggression would be political, since the MP is in alliance with the councilors who are resisting the mayor in the municipality.
Those attending the event reported that Simão Peixoto entered the walk with the specific aim of attacking Roberto Cidade, acting cowardly by taking advantage of the parliamentarian’s distraction to punch him in the face.
In addition, in December 2021, the mayor accepted the challenge of former councilor Erineu Alves da Silva and promoted the MMA fight to resolve “political differences”, even during the pandemic period. The attitude caused negative national repercussions for Amazonas and showed the manager’s lack of respect for preventive measures against Covid-19.
These violent and reckless actions of the then mayor Simão Peixot show a lack of ability and responsibility to run the city. It is necessary that authorities are elected according to criteria that prioritize the integrity and well-being of the population, not political or personal interests.
