Motherhood is a unique decision for every woman who must consider what is necessary, such as family situation, financial situation or short and long term goals to determine if it is time to welcome a new member to the family. This is what happened to Janet Jackson, who had her child at the age of 50, after much deliberation, so that she could devote as much time as possible to him and be calm about life’s priorities.
Janet Jackson gave birth to her first child, Eissa Al Mana, on January 3, 2017 at the age of 50. She was married to Wissam Al Mana at the time, but a few months after the little one was born, they divorced.
Since then, the singer has raised the now five-year-old Eissa as a single mother, which has not been easy for her work, she admits. However, she also emphasizes that her priority right now is to take care of her son.
“At some point there will be music,” she stated of her career in an interview, adding, “There are so many things I want to do, but my number one job is being a mom.”
Although eight months after the birth of Eisa, Janet had to continue her tour, she took her motherhood with her and although she has moments when she has to go out, the person who helps her take care of the little one, the singer points out that she trusts the nanny because she prefers to live every stage of her son with him.
“I don’t have a nanny to help me. I do everything myself. If my mom did it with nine kids, there’s no reason why I can’t do it with one. Of course, when I’m at work, someone takes care of her, but it’s just me and my baby. Sometimes it’s not easy, but my life has changed. Obviously he comes first,” she declared a few years ago about the dynamic with her son.
Jackson said that her free time also involves her son, as she likes to take him to the park, play with her cousins and visit museums. And despite the insistence of the paparazzi to photograph his life, the artist tries to take it in the best possible way.
On what she would like to pass on to the little one, Janet talked about some topics such as “connection to the planet and a higher power. Knowing who you are and that we are all the same regardless of background or gender. Respect others and you will be respected.”
In 2018, the singer opened up about the feeling her son gave her from a very young age, with an intensity she didn’t even know before the little one was born.
“My son, even at 17 months old, showed me what love is. No matter how deeply you think you feel that feeling, you can always go deeper. Love is limitless, he declared.
The baby asked me for breakfast
In 2019, he talked a little about his son’s taste, which is also related to music, as he revealed that he already played the violin, cello, drums and harmonica at the age of three, and that he takes instruments with him to school.
“I bought a real violin and he was really excited,” commented Janet. “Sleep with him. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with the instrument.”
In this way, he dedicates the necessary time to follow and share Eissa’s growth, and when asked in June 2022 about his future steps in music, as well as his definition of success now, he did not hesitate to describe it as follows:
“I can wake up and see my baby every day. This is a space where from the bottom of my soul I really wanted to be right now and I conquered it.”
Of the Grammys he’s won during his career, he said he keeps them in the basement so his son can decide what to do with them.
