Orlando Pirates announce Happy JELE exit
As the South African website reported on Monday, The Pirates announced the news that no one expected. The club confirmed that the 35-year-old Jelle has bid farewell to the club after a lapse of no less than 16 years.
“After a wonderful 16 years with us, we say goodbye to our future Hall of Famers,” the club said.
“Our centre-back and club captain, whose contract has expired, will leave the club. This marks the end of Happy Jele’s important career with us,” the club added.
“Orlando Pirates FC can confirm that Happy Jele will meet with the club president at the end of the 2021/22 season to discuss his future. During these three-week deliberations, the club discussed the long-serving defender’s options in a non-playing capacity various job options.
“After this meeting, the 35-year-old had time to go home and think about it.
“Usually, players are released after the player’s contract expires, but for Happy, because he has a special position in the club and has been providing such professional services to the club for the past 16 years, it is very important for Happy. The chairman specifically asked the player to provide his input,” the note added.
Change profile picture to HONOR JELE
Almost immediately, the club spotted a new profile picture on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The club’s traditional badge has been removed and replaced by a new shiny design with the image of the outgoing legend.
