1 – Pippi Longstocking

In this first book, we meet Sweet Pippi Longstocking. A little girl had great adventures on her father’s ship. It is evident that his unusual childhood and highly favorable DNA made him a child of enviable self-reliance and great self-confidence.

Peppi, who was already motherless, lost his father during a severe storm that hit them at sea. However, with a strong intuition, the girl is sure that her father is not dead. He believes that he managed to swim to the nearest land and that he probably ended up being the boss of an island full of ferocious natives.

After this event, Peppi decides to go live in an old house that his father had bought years ago. His intention was to go live in that house – called Vila Vilekula – with his daughter when he retired.

Now at the age of 9, however, Peppi lives alone in that house with his little monkey and his horse for company. But what seems sad for the main character is just a detail, because with the help of the generous inheritance left by her father, the girl manages to get by perfectly and always keep a beautiful smile on her face. her braids bouncing eccentrics.

In his new neighborhood, he meets two young people who become his great friends. However, many characters also seem to bring trouble to the story, such as the court officials who intend to take it to the orphans’ “home”.

Anyway… nothing Pippi Longstocking can’t handle on her own!

2 – Peppi on the ship

Peppi for a ride

Pippi on Board is the second book in Astrid’s series, which means an exciting reunion. In this work, Peppi shows us again why children adore him and adults vaguely disapprove of him. Once again, we follow an eccentric little girl who has settled in a small village. We don’t know how long!

Always speaks his mind, even if it’s often stupid. He always only does what he wants, and that includes buying all the sweets in town and giving them to the kids around him.

For all the inherent lightness of the character, however, this plot presents a somewhat cutting problem involving a difficult decision.

The protagonist lives his daily life normally, when his father’s unexpected visit promises to change everything from here on out. Ephraim Longstocking became the king of cannibals on one of the South Sea islands.

Now Píppi finds himself torn between his father and the affection he built while living in Vila Vilekula. So…will he and his father embark on another adventure across the sea? Or will he stay in the small town with Tommy and Annika?

3 – Peppi in the South Sea

This third volume is the last of Pippi Longstocking’s great books. As always, Peppi plays the agitated story, always carrying his unwavering air.

As we started reading, we noticed some things happening, such as the presence of a strange gentleman with strange interests. By the way, one of those points of interest is in the old house where our beloved Peppi lives. His interest leads him into an intense dialogue with the carrot-haired girl, who apparently wins, before literally throwing the old man off his property.

However, the meaning of the title of this book – Peppi in the South Sea – is in the invitation of old Ephraim, his father, who invites him to the island where he is king. By the way, the name of the island is Currecurredutina.

At first this news saddens Tom and Aninha, but when he tells them that they are going too, the children are euphoric.

Now on an island full of mysteries with 126 inhabitants, Pippi Longstocking and her little friends go on a great adventure!

About Astrid Lindgren

Born in Sweden, Astrid Anna Emilia Lindgren was a children’s writer who has achieved the incredible mark of having books translated into 85 languages, reaching millions and millions of people in over 100 countries.

The sources of inspiration for Astrid’s stories mainly came from her family stories or childhood memories. However, the great recognition came through his masterpiece, which is precisely Peppi Longstocking, a character originally invented for the pleasure of his little daughter Karin, who was in bed at the age of 7.

In 1944, the author took second place in the competition of a publisher called Rabén & Sjögren with his novel “Britt-Marie liberates his heart”. The following year, she won a prize in the same competition with Pippi Långstrump, which would become one of the most beloved children’s books in the history of literature.

The interesting thing here is that the Bonniers had rejected Pep’s book a little earlier.

The author became one of Sweden’s most influential women, known for her strong support of children’s rights and opposition to corporal punishment.

An interesting detail to highlight about Astrid’s achievements relates to her influence in the 1976 election, a hotly debated year that was surely decisive in bringing down the 40-year long Social Democratic government.
