Quarterly Chromebook shipments have been cut in half

The International Data Corporation (IDC) has observed a sharp decline in shipments of laptops running the Chrome OS operating system. in the second quarter of this year, shipments of these devices have more than doubled compared to the same period in 2021.

Between April and June, an estimated 6.0 million Chromebooks were sold worldwide. For comparison, let’s note that a year ago, sales amounted to 12.3 million units. Thus, a decrease of 51.4 percent was observed.

Analysts note that the observed picture is partly caused by the decrease in demand in the educational sector. However, Chromebook shipments are still above pre-pandemic levels.

The biggest player in the sector is Dell Technologies, whose share has increased from 14.7% to 25.5% in one year. In second place is Acer Group, which strengthened its position from 15.4% to 22.6%. Bronze went to Lenovo with 19.4%, compared to 20.4% last year.

In the fourth place is HP, which has sharply lost its positions. the company’s share fell from 35.2% to 15.6% during the year. It rounds out Samsung’s top five with 6.2%, compared to 7.0% in the second quarter of 2021.
