Samsung Galaxy Z Fold with a 200 Mpix camera? It is impossible
Every day brings us closer to the premiere of Samsung’s new foldable smartphones. No wonder new, more and more interesting and promising information about them regularly appears. However, the latter is like a bucket of cold water – a reputable source reported that there is no way the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will get the same camera as the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not have an ultra-high resolution camera
The first Galaxy Fold offers a main camera with a resolution of 12 Mpix with a variable aperture (f / 1.5 or f / 2.4). The Galaxy Z Fold 2 also had 12 Mpix, but with a fixed aperture of f/1.8, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 3. In the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung decided to use the ISOCELL GN3 matrix with a resolution of 50 Mpix (again with an aperture of f/1.8 ).
In January 2023, information appeared that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will receive a camera with a 108 Mpix sensor and f/1.7 aperture. And while that’s still a lower resolution than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, it would still mean controversy upgrade compared to its predecessor. However, the latest information is not so optimistic.
One of the respected insiders who has provided a lot of verified, preliminary information in the past – Ice universe, reported today that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will offer a similar camera to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. He also stated that it is impossible for the smartphone to be equipped with a 200 Mpix ISOCELL HP2 sensor.
And while Frozen doesn’t explain why, it’ll probably be around the size. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a 50MP ISOCELL GN3 sensor in a 1/1.57″ optical format, while a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor has a 1/1.3″ optical format. Every millimeter is extremely valuable and obviously a camera with a resolution above 50 Mpix will not fit in the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It should be noted that Samsung’s 108 Mpix matrices have an optical format similar to ISOCELL HP2.
Due to the lack of space, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not only get a camera with a lower resolution
Samsung, if it could, would probably fit a camera with a resolution of 108 or even 200 Mpix in its foldable smartphone. However, its design will not only allow this – we recently learned that due to the lack of enough space, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not offer a slot for the S Pen stylus, although the Koreans had such plans.
However, Samsung is not giving up on it, but for now it is not known when the Galaxy Z Fold with a place for a stylus will appear on the market. There are several ways to solve this, although the manufacturer seems to consider only one – to create a comfortable to use, thinner stylus. Apparently, he does not want to agree to increase the thickness of the device, ie. the second way.
We’re expecting the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 alongside the debut of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in August 2023. It’s recently been reported that Samsung may also introduce a new Galaxy SmartTag on the occasion. We will not be surprised by the premiere of new smart watches from the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
