Samsung smartwatches get a useful update
Samsung regularly adds new features to its Galaxy Watch series of smartwatches. The manufacturer announced that this time it has prepared the latest update of the SmartThings platform, thanks to which users will have even more control over their smart home.
SmartThings update for Samsung smartwatches – what’s new?
Thanks to the latest SmartThings update, the South Korean manufacturer ensures that owners of smartwatches in its Galaxy Watch series can conveniently control connected devices directly from their wrist. This means they no longer need to run the application – they just have to swipe right on the watch face to access the SmartThings platform.
The latest update adds support for more Samsung and third-party devices, which can now be controlled from a smartwatch where previously it was only possible via a smartphone. The novelty is live transmission of images from Home, Doorbell, Ring and Nest cameras that support the WebRTC protocol – owners of (selected) Galaxy Watchy can talk directly from the watch to people who are at the door ring.
In addition, with the latest SmartThings update for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatches, you can turn on/off the sound from the SmartTag and adjust its volume, adjust the fan speed of the air purifier, set the temperature and control the desired temperature for heating and Cooling in thermostats and blinds control (three custom commands are available: open, close and hold, and shade level adjustment).
Additionally, the latest update allows remote control of a connected TV from a smartwatch via the newly added device-to-device (D2D) control feature, which seamlessly connects the Galaxy Watch to a nearby Samsung TV, although the manufacturer says it only Available on the “latest” Smart TVs that support BT-HID technology. An additional requirement is that the devices are within range of Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
Which Samsung smartwatches will receive this update?
Samsung announces that the SmartThings update – version dubbed v1.1.08 – is available for the Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic smartwatches.
Importantly, information about this update has appeared on Samsung’s German website, which may mean availability may vary by market.
