Schalke 04 also did not win in the third friendly match as part of the winter preparations. It was 2-2 (1-1) at third division club VfL Osnabrück. “Schalke” coach Thomas Reiss should not be satisfied with that.

Marcin Kaminski marked his return in the second half after a long injury layoff. But in general, the Bundesliga club could not convince.

Birth purpose

The game was quite even in the first 45 minutes. 15 minutes later, U23 player Kozuki took the lead for Schalke. Thus, the striker has performed successfully for the blue-and-whites in the third test match in a row. The fact that Kozuki was also celebrating his 22nd birthday on the day of the game made it even more special for him.

But only seven minutes after the Bundesliga side had taken the lead, Osnabrück equalized in front of 12,000 spectators at Bremer Brucke. After the free kick, Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fermann could only push the ball forward. Chato was there to equalize.

Brunner scores a penalty

The second half did not start well for “Schalke 04”. VfL’s first attack of the second half ended with Brunner fouling Simakala. The cheater earned a penalty himself and converted the home team’s score.

A little later, “Schalke” wanted a penalty after a foul on Mollet, but the referee’s whistle remained silent. The Royal Blues wanted to at least make it 2-2, but failed to capitalize on their chances early on. By the way, Niklas Tauer was closely following the game, and the newcomer from Mainz was a live guest in Osnabrück.

Lots of changes

For a long time it looked like Osnabrück would take the slim lead as time went on. However, after substitute Ivan’s free kick, Cisse, who was also substituted, made the score 2-2. It remained a varied game in which the Bundesliga club once again showed key defensive weaknesses.

How Schalke 04 played: Fehrman – Brunner (Müller 62), Yoshida (Cisse 46), Matricani (Kaminski 62), Kolodziejczak (Aydin 62) – Molle, Kraus (Drexler 46), Latza – Kozuki (46. Ivan ), 46th Polter), Boulter (75th Kierwaa)
