The President of the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) Humberto Martins has decided to suspend the incapacity of the former governor of the Federal District, Jose Roberto Arruda (photo). Arruda, who was a senator, federal deputy and governor of the Federal District between 2007 and 2010, is accused of administrative impropriety, the so-called “DEM Mensalão”discovered by Pandora’s Box.
In the decision, Humberto Martins insisted that the former governor cannot be deprived of his political rights. until the Federal Supreme Court (STF) rules on the constitutionality of the new administrative malpractice law, which was applied last year and which makes more flexible the criteria for punishing those involved in actions against the state administration. The court session is scheduled for the beginning of August.
A decision to make the former governor inadmissible at this time could cause “irreparable” damage to Arruda’s career, Martins wrote in his lawsuit.
This increases the chances that PL-affiliated Arruda will become a candidate for the Federal District government. he will be alongside his wife, Flavia Arruda (PL-DF), Jair Bolsonaro’s former Cabinet Secretary, who will seek a seat in the Senate.
