Wells released the letter on video through a family spokesman while he remains in jail on a DUI arrest.

To the person or persons responsible for kidnapping Summer, not only did you break Summer’s heart and take her away from her mother and father who love her very much, but you also ruined her chances of an education.

Summer was last seen on June 15, 2021 at her residence in Hawkins County, Tennessee, and an AMBER Alert was issued the following day.

The Wells family said she went to the basement to play with toys after planting flowers in the front yard with her grandmother and mother and seemingly disappeared.

The court of public opinion turned and pointed the finger at Don and the Wells family.

But the family claims that Summer was kidnapped by an unknown assailant.

What to know about the missing girl Summer Wells

In March, it was reported that Summer’s family was “not cooperating” with law enforcement as the search for their daughter continued.

Candus Bly, Summer’s mom, wrote a statement to WJHL, which was provided to The Sun by a family spokesperson, denying the sheriff’s accusations of a wall of silence.

During the interview with Dr. The Philem TV personality made it clear that he did not think the parents had anything to do with Summer’s disappearance, but pressed them if they knew anything more about who might have targeted the girl.

On the sad anniversary of Summer’s disappearance, Don shared a heartbreaking video that included a photo with Summer.

“Don had certain things he wanted to share. Chief among them is the last picture ever taken of him with his daughter Summer,” the statement read.

“This video is as raw as Don’s current position in prison. He spends his time and days reading the Bible, the only material other than postal letters allowed by the institution.”

The six-minute video features photos of Summer and her family before the little girl seemingly disappeared.

It ended with a picture of Summer, who was 6 in February, being held by her father, their hands forming a heart around them.

Don also included a written section called “Letter and Prayer for Summer.”

“Since you’ve been gone, I’ve been completely devastated [sic]. I’ve been looking for you everywhere, my beautiful girl [sic]!

“I thought U-tube would be the most powerful tool to help find you, and maybe it still could be, but at a price we may not be able to afford, our family may not survive!

“Please God, please look at my precious daughter, we love her so much! We pray to God to bring her back to us, as well as the boy. I would be so happy to be a family again.”

Summer’s three brothers were removed from the family home six weeks after she disappeared, which Don confirmed during an appearance on a podcast called “Jay is 4 Justice.”

With increasing public scrutiny, Don succumbed to temptation.

“I believed it,” Don said on the podcast. “Like an idiot, I believed it and jumped up and started drinking and everything. And that’s why they took our kids.”
