The 5G signal, the technology that allows for higher internet speeds, will now reach 347 more Brazilian cities.
Anatel, the national telecommunications agency, expected to release the frequency in more locations, allowing operators Claro, Tim and Vivo to carry the signal in more Brazilian municipalities.
5G has been in Brazil since July last year, but the fifth generation signal has not yet been implemented in several regions.
5G in Brazil
Telephone and internet operators Tim, Claro and Vivo won 3.5 GHz for the main 5G auction.
Companies will have a deadline to implement new infrastructure that can bring the latest technology to new places.
The release of spectrum in new locations will affect the lives of more than 19.5 million Brazilians.
But for this you need to have a mobile phone compatible with the technology that will allow access to 5G Standalone. There are 487 locations in the country that have access to 3.5 GHz (5G).
All capital cities
All capitals and cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants and other smaller places in the country already have 5G technology.
Anatel’s new release makes 3.5 GHz spectrum available in more than 487 municipalities in Brazil.
However, the deadlines for the full implementation of 5G are far away. by July 2029, install an antenna for every 15,000 inhabitants in small communities with more than 30,000 inhabitants.
Deadlines vary from year to year. In 2028, the target is one antenna for every 15,000 inhabitants in at least 50% of communities with more than 30,000 inhabitants. These commitments are made by companies when they purchase a 3.5 GHz frequency band.
