Jim Montgomery, a former Dallas Stars coach who has spent the past two years as an assistant to St. Louis Blues, will be appointed Bruins head coach in the coming days, a source with direct knowledge of the process told the Globe on Thursday.
That came amid several reports of Montgomery’s upcoming hiring, including one from Kevin Weekes of ESPN, who said the contract under discussion for Montgomery would be for three years at a cost of $ 2 million a year.
The Bruins, led by general manager Don Sweeney, spent more than three weeks looking for their next coach after Sweeney fired Bruce Cassidy on June 6th. Cassidy was quickly picked up by the Golden Knights.
