The festive train will put families in the Christmas mood with mulled wine and minutes

The return of the festive train hopes to get families in the Christmas spirit as they get the chance to unwrap presents and enjoy scones and mulled wine alongside Santa Claus.

Now in its second year, the Santa Steam Express allows families to explore London in a magical way alongside Santa and his ‘jolly helpers’, with children ready to brave the cold winter air with a drink and festive treat on arrival. .

Juliet Soley, head of marketing for Steam Dreams Rail Company – which offers the experience – told the PA news agency: “We have Christmas music playing, it’s a wonderful atmosphere on board. Adults, depending on which class they are in, get mulled wine, mince pies, rolls, coffee and tea.

“We take care of everyone and we have gifts for all the kids.”

She added that the steam locomotive is a highlight for many passengers, with most taking photos next to it to commemorate the experience.

With a journey time of approximately one hour and 45 minutes, there are plenty of family-friendly activities on board.

“We have a worksheet for the kids which has lots of different activities, spot the difference, connect the dots to make a picture, Christmas jokes, word searches,” Ms Soley added.

“All the kids get it, we also have a little song sheet on all the tables so the elves come through, they have bells and we play singalongs so they all have song sheets.”

The Santa Steam Express left London Victoria on 19 December and offered three departure slots – 8.45am, 11.12am and 1.45pm.

Also on December 21 at the same time, it is scheduled to welcome passengers on board again.

Ms Soley added that the company carried 792 passengers over three trips on December 19, with the same number expected on December 21.
