The first day of the Tour around Fremont County and Wyoming

This coming weekend is not only a New Year’s Eve celebration to end 2022 and ring in 2023, but also marks the 12th annual First Day Trips to State Parks and State Historic Sites across the country and in the state of Wyoming. Wyoming has 15 sites, including four in and around Fremont County, that will host their own 1- to 4-mile hikes with State Park staff and volunteers leading the pack through easy to moderate terrain.

Below are the times and locations of each Wyoming State Park hosting a First Day Hike on January 1, 2023:

  • Bear River State Park – 1 p.m., meet at visitor center, 1-2.5 mile easy terrain hike, snowpack, 307-789-6547
  • Boysen State Park – 10am, meet at park headquarters, 1.5 mile hike in mild to moderate terrain, 307-876-2796
  • Buffalo Bill State Park – 9am, meet at park headquarters, 1-2 mile easy trail hike, 307-587-9227
  • Curt Gowdy State Park – 10:30 a.m., meet at Visitor Center, 1-2 mile hike on easy terrain, 307-632-7946
  • Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park – 10am, meet at the Platte River Shelter, 1-2.5 mile(s) easy terrain hike, 307-577-5150
  • Fort Bridger State Historic Site – 10 a.m., meet in front parking lot, 1 mile easy terrain hike, 307-782-3842
  • Fort Steele State Historic Site – 10 a.m., meet at Visitor Center, 1 mile easy terrain hike, 307-320-3013
  • Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site – 1 p.m., meet in main parking lot, 1 mile easy terrain hike, 307-684-7629
  • Guernsey State Park – 10am, meet at the museum, 2-4 mile hike in mild to moderate terrain, 307-836-2334
  • Hot Springs State Park – 11am, meet at Thermopolis PL Golf Course, 1-2 mile moderate hike, 307-864-2176
  • Keyhole State Park – 10 a.m. meet at Big Kahuna, 1-2 mile hike on easy terrain, 307-756-3596
  • Medicine Lodge State Archeological Site – 10 a.m., meet at Red Barn, 1 mile easy terrain hike, 307-469-2234
  • Sinks Canyon State Park – 1 p.m., meet at Popo Agie Campground, 3 mile hike in moderate terrain, snowpack, 307-332-6333
  • South Pass City State Historic Site 1 p.m., meet at the Dance Hall, 3 mile hike on moderate terrain, snowpack, 307-332-3684
  • Trail End State Historic Site – 10 a.m., meet East Side of Kendrick Mansion, 1-2 mile easy terrain hike, 307-674-4589
