The new face of Devon football

It has been a week of drama for the leading professional clubs in Devon football.

Following a late win over Fleetwood Town in Sky Bet League One, Exeter City have named Gary Caldwell as the man to replace Matt Taylor, who recently left to take over as manager at Rotherham United.

Caldwell is a former Celtic and Scotland defender and most recently worked as assistant manager at Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League.

Exeter City Club president Julian Tagg said: “Gary brings a wealth of experience to our club and we are excited and optimistic about the future.”

Following the trip at Plymouth Argyle, the Pilgrims remain top of League One following a 2-2 draw at Bristol Rovers last weekend and welcome Exeter to a thrilling Devon derby on Monday night.

Torquay United, meanwhile, are struggling at the bottom of the National League, but held a thrilling 4-4 draw with Altrincham last weekend.
